In XV century Niccolò III d’Este decided to build the BELRIGUARDO castle in Voghiera, first exemplum of "villa all'antica" in the world (it means following the ancient Rome Empereors' style of life). In order to get there by boat, he dug a connection using the bed of the ancient Po-Sandolo River. Work on the castle started in 1435. Every duke left his own mark on the summer "estense" palace with endless building sites, adding or removing porches, decorations, paints, chimneys, and etc. Neverth... Read More
